Two years ago, I was there as the most recent conflict in Sudan began, and westerners were urgently evacuated from its capital city – Khartoum. It was soon after that Sudan disappeared from the attention of the world. Yet two years on today, while Sudan's capital may no longer be burning as it once did, it is an empty shell, hollowed out, destroyed and vacant of the vibrant communities that made up what it once was. And crucially, Sudan’s agony has got worse.
