1 INTRODUCTION Cannabis sativa L., synonymously called “hemp,” is a prehistorically iconic crop, heralded for its millennia-old source of utility fibers, foods, and pharmaceuticals (Farag & Kayser, 2017). In Europe and East Asia, as “Industrial hemp,” it was introduced and grown as a prolific fiber-bearing crop having only an iota of intoxicating ∆9-tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) (Clarke, 1999).
