We hail the large-scale participation in the peace and unity march by members of the civil society and democratic groups on 27th September 2024 in Shimla and Solan against the rising communalism there vis-à-vis the Muslim community. This confluence of secular voices was extremely necessary in these trying times when Hindutva groups had started a conflagration against the peace and harmony of Himachal.

Godi media channels and websites are carrying out a propaganda campaign these days. It is claimed that Delhi Minorities Commission (DMC) and Delhi Waqf Board (DWB) want to grab Hindu temple lands. This propaganda is an attempt to derail the current discussion on Waqf. This campaign falsely claims that the DMC has suggested and DWB has demanded lands of Hindu temples.

We belong to Shimla, Himachal Pradesh and are deeply aggrieved by the gravity of circumstances that have built up in the last few weeks around the Mosque in Sanjauli, Shimla. It is a matter of serious concern that there has been mass mobilization against a religious minority community in our city. At an apparent level, Shimla has so far been a relatively peaceful place with the co-existence of many cultures, religions and ethnic identities.
