We saw the smoke in the atmosphere on Friday, mainly elevated well above ground level. That will change at times this weekend as there will likely be some smoke making it to the surface. Smoke aside, it’s going to be a quiet, warm, summer-like weekend. Temperatures will make it to around 80 to 85 degrees across southern Minnesota and northern Iowa along with a light wind. Our next chance of rain arrives Tuesday as a storm system swings through the region.

Summer warmth is back and will remain through the weekend into next week. Along with the warmth comes a quiet weather pattern and a light wind through Sunday. Unfortunately, winds aloft are pushing Canadian wildfire smoke our way which will keep the sunlight filtered through the weekend. At times Saturday through Monday, smoke will reach the surface so we’ll not only see it but smell it. An Air Quality Alert has been hoisted until 6 PM Monday for all of Minnesota and Wisconsin.

Showers have been common across the region since early this week, but there’s going to be a brighter, warmer change ahead for the end of the week and weekend. More sunshine is ahead for Friday with temperatures running a bit above average for a change. Winds will be gusty out of the northwest through Friday, especially from the late morning through afternoon. Highs will make their way to around 80 degrees Friday afternoon.

We’re headed into a warmer weekend with a quiet weather pattern and more sunshine. Temperatures are going to be running just above average for this time of year, into the low to mid-80s. Now just as soon as we’ve got a break into warmer, quiet days, this will also come with the likelihood of Canadian wildfire smoke over just about all of Minnesota into Iowa. At times, especially Saturday, this smoke may be near the surface.
