Abdullah Badawi in 2010. (Bloomberg) -- Abdullah Ahmad Badawi, a Muslim scholar who served as Malaysian premier after long-time leader Mahathir Mohamad stepped down, has died. He was 85. His passing Monday was confirmed on social media by incumbent Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim. A career politician, Abdullah served all four of Malaysia’s post-independence leaders in posts ranging from education minister to foreign minister.

Police rescued 215 foreign nationals in a raid on an online scam center in northwestern Cambodia, Thai authorities said, in the latest crackdown on criminal cyber operations in the region. The victims comprised 109 Thais, five Taiwanese, three Indonesians, 50 Pakistanis and 48 Indians, Thai government spokesperson Jirayu Houngsub said on Sunday. Officers from Thailand and Cambodia were involved in the raid on the building in Poipet, Jirayu said.
