    I wake up with the hostages and go to sleep with them. They are constantly on my mind. Trump’s special envoy arrived in Israel and shortly thereafter Netanyahu authorized a senior Israeli delegation to travel to Doha. I hoped that this time they won’t return empty-handed. Time is running out. I fear for the lives of the hostages. Every day in the Hamas dungeons is detrimental to their health and well-being. 19 January 2025 was a good day.

    Last week I went out of the pool and asked a guy whether he knew where the bus stop was. He was unsure, so I asked someone else who directed me to the bus stop. The guy, Avi, listened to the short conversation and then approached me and asked: Where do you need to go? I told him. Avi said: I drive nearby. I take you. We embarked on an interesting conversation at the end of which he stopped outside my home. I said: there was really no need. This is beyond any call of duty. Avi replied: It is nothing.

    Kamala Harris had a mountain to climb. Her starting point was not great. For some time, the White House did not disclose that Biden was not altogether fit for the job. The “debate” with Trump disclosed the secret. It became clear that if Biden were to continue the campaign, he would lose. Then, and only then, the Democratic Party sought a replacement. The obvious choice was Harris who jumped into the race mere three months before the elections. She had a lot of catch-up to do.

    I was saddened to hear about the death of Yehuda Bauer, one of Israel’s foremost historians who dedicated his life to the study of the Holocaust. Yehuda Bauer was born in Prague in 1926 and in 1939 immigrated with his parents to Palestine. In 1960, Bauer received a Doctor of Philosophy degree from the Hebrew University for his dissertation on the Haganah and the Palmach. He began his academic career a year later at the Institute of Contemporary Judaism at the Hebrew University.
