Ray Cox explains that the absence of a clear and wisely funded business strategy can lead to decreased efficiency and lower profits. I know it’s something of a cliché, but failing to plan in business will often mean you are planning to fail. With start-up businesses in the UK this is certainly the case. Fewer than 30% have any sort of written plan, and 90% (yes 90%) fail within the first five years (Forbes/CB Insights).

It’s on the next round for the Roanoke Rail Yard Dawgs. The hockey team heads that way at stampede pace, too. After spotting the Quad City Storm the first of the three-game opening round of the President’s Cup playoffs, the Dawgs picked up steam in a hurry. The climax was a 7-1 blowout in Saturday evening’s clincher at Roanoke Civic Center as the host played its role of defending Southern Professional Hockey League champion down to the last spray of frost in the corner.
Washington and Lee women win ODAC title with clutch shooting by Schleusner

When it looked like Washington and Lee post Mary Schleusner had exhausted her massive portfolio of ways to play winning college basketball she produced another five minutes worth of gasp prompting. Schleusner rainbowed a right wing 3-pointer well beyond the arc that tied the score at the horn then chipped in eight points more in overtime to lead the Generals to a hard-to-believe 89-80 victory over Shenandoah.
