Members of the Snack Is A Snack Football Club (SIASFC) involved in the assault of a referee during the final of the Makamu Festive Games apologised for their unsporting behaviour. The SIASFC players and coach took up the responsibility to ask for forgiveness from the sponsor of the games Bishop Israel Makamu, as well as to the organisers, referee and their opponents, the Kathorus Juventus FC (KJFC), at the Endless Hope Bible Church in Alberton on January 12.

Lakhishwa Holdings in Mapleton, north of Kathorus, is a township waste recycling company that aims to keep the environment clean and tackle youth unemployment. Its CEO, Sifiso Mchunu, told the Kathorus Mail in an interview that he established the company after noticing that waste and unemployment drastically affected Ekurhuleni residents.

Ekurhuleni Mayor Nkosindiphile Xhakaza committed to resolving the delayed construction work at the Vosloorus Ext 9 RDP flats. Xhakaza pledged to resolve the issue when he visited the site of the RDP units as part of the mayoral service delivery oversight outreach campaign on February 14. “The units were supposed to be completed in a three-year timeframe, but eight years later the RDP flats are still not completed.

After several children fell sick and some died in Katlehong, Thokoza and other areas in Gauteng over suspected food poisoning, residents of Vosloorus picketed and closed down the Vosloorus Cash and Carry warehouse on November 18. Scores of residents barricaded the entrance to the shopping complex on Barry Marais Road where the warehouse is based, barely walking distance to the Vosloorus Police Station.
