The Oodua People’s Congress (OPC) has urged all six governors of the Southwest to treat the influx of insurgents and terrorists, fleeing military bombardment in the North into forests in the region with the urgency it deserves.  In a statement, its President, Otunba Wasiu Afolabi, has offered the assistance of the OPC in tackling the menace. The Nigerian Human Rights Community (NHRC), a coalition of human rights and community-based organisations, has lauded Ekiti State Governor Abiodun Oyebanji’s performance in office last year. In a statement after its annual general meeting in Lagos, the coalition of 130 civil society and community-based organisations named Oyebanji the ‘Governor of the Year 2024’.  The group said the governor would be presented with a plague to encourage other governors to emulate him.

A Muslim scholars and clerics have endorsed the tax reform bills currently before the National Assembly, saying they are laudable initiatives that would alleviate the poor and stimulate economic activity by reducing the tax burden on businesses. At the Muhammad Rosulullah Islamic Centre, Surulere, Lagos, various speakers emphasized that the disagreement over the initiatives stems from inadequate awareness about their benefits and a lack of trust among the citizenry.
