Beloved characters from the classic works of Dr. Seuss are taking over the Huntingdon Area High School stage this week when Seussical the Musical opens for a three-night run. The HAHS Music Department production, which features the talents of nearly 50 student performers and stage crew and a live orchestra, starts at 7 p.m. nightly Thursday through Saturday, April 3-5. A free showing for senior citizens is scheduled for 9 a.m. Wednesday, April 2.

The Shirley Township Board of Supervisors has approved a pay increase for board members in accordance with state regulations. At their monthly meeting March 27, supervisors approved the increase to align with Act 94 which took effect Dec. 1 and amends the state’s Second Class Township Code, which look effect Dec. 1. The state last updated supervisors’ pay in 1995.

Following the exit of its superintendent of seven years earlier this month, the Mount Union Area School District is getting ready to embark on a search for someone new to grip the helm. Board president Linda McClure said the board as a whole hasn’t yet talked about the pending search but anticipates discussion at the board’s next workshop session, scheduled for 6:30 p.m. Monday, April 12, in the high school library.

A maintenance worker at a local nursing home is facing charges for allegedly touching a 96-year-old dementia patient in an inappropriate manner. An in-home health worker is facing charges after she was found lying on the ground outside her client’s Mount Union home in an intoxicated state, according to a report from the Mount Union Borough Police Department.
