Evans McNiel Rogers told a government press conference on Monday, 28 April, that there is a “dire need” for a fit-for purpose health facility to replace the Princess Alexandra Hospital.

The youngest pupils at Vivien Vanterpool Primary School in Island Harbour are learning from home as the smell of sargassum lingers in the area. The kindergarten, grade one and grade two classes closed at 12pm on Monday, 28 April, with students switching to e-learning. They are set to reopen on Wednesday, 30 April. Pupils in grades three, four, five and six have remained at school during this period.

The Anguilla Football Association, La Vue Boutique Inn, and the Lions Community were all granted tax breaks during a recent sitting of the Anguilla House of Assembly. In total, they will benefit from nearly EC$110,000 in customs duty and excise tax reductions on goods already imported or expected to be brought into Anguilla. The relief was granted through three separate motions approved by members of the assembly during the 22 April session.

An influx of sargassum at Island Harbour this week prompted government action as it began piling up along the shoreline. The floating seaweed began to accumulate on Tuesday, 22 April, drawing attention from local residents and authorities. The next morning, journalist Lloyd Gumbs of Lloyds Live had posted a video capturing the thick mass swirling around boats in the harbour.
