A former Armagh GAA captain has appeared in court charged with alleged sexual assault offences. Aidan Nugent, 30, of Cullyhanna Road, Newtownhamilton in Co Armagh, appeared in the dock at Armagh Magistrates’ Court sitting in Newry on Tuesday morning. He faces four charges relating to an incident involving a woman on November 17th 2024, during a trip involving Armagh GAA to Miami in the United States.

Ms O’Neill said people are “bursting with pride” at McIlroy’s achievement in winning the Masters, which should be celebrated “in the best possible style”. Co Down golfer McIlroy, who achieved the career grand slam with his Augusta victory, lives in the US.

Golfer Rory McIlroy has been described as an “incredible inspiration” to pupils at his former school in Co Down. McIlroy attended Sullivan Upper in Holywood in the early 2000s, and is remembered as a teenager who was “golf mad”. The school offers a green blazer for pupils who excel at sport, which principal Craig Mairs said McIlroy achieved during his time at the school, adding the current pupils are hoping he might bring his latest home to show them.

A man facing charges over the murder of two brothers is being prosecuted “largely based on a TV documentary”. The detail emerged as the family of two young brothers killed in Co Down in 1993 welcomed the first stage of court proceedings against a man being prosecuted with conspiring to murder them. Laurence George Maguire, 62, of Millbank Terrace in Falkirk, Stirlingshire, has been accused of conspiracy to murder and firearms offences.

Concern has been voiced at the aging fleet of PSNI vehicles with some 20% recorded as being off the road at one point in 2023. The PSNI has a commissioned fleet of almost 2,700 vehicles, which cover around 27 million miles a year. It includes armoured, non-armoured and commercial vehicles, as well as a number of aircraft, boats and motorcycles. A new report by the Auditor General has found that since 2021/22, the PSNI has spent almost £26 million on purchasing new vehicles.
