Years of heated buyer demand created the strongest sellers’ market of the past decade across much of the UK. And while demand has dipped since the heady days of 2021, one town in Somerset has been named among the top hotspots for sellers at the moment, according to new research from Rightmove. More than eight out of every 10 homes for sale on Rightmove in the six most popular towns are already sold subject to contract.

A Somerset village is the most expensive area to buy a house in the county, with an average price of more than half a million pounds. Wedmore, which is situated near Cheddar in the Somerset Levels between the River Axe and River Brue, has an average house price of £640,463. This is according to a ranking of average house prices in Somerset on the property website Zoopla.
