It feels like forever since I’ve seen a new western. There have been plenty of opportunities, but I can’t remember the last time I saw one in the theater, at least not since watching Red River in a film class at university. Last year’s The Unholy Trinity seemed like a golden opportunity. The trailer was intriguing, and the movie was completely free. It’s also not completely new. Taking Up More Room is a reader-supported publication.

Who doesn’t remember when anything involving Wes Anderson promised to be stylish, stylized, and full of wry fun? The Phoenician Scheme promises to continue that trend. Well, it makes a lot of promises. Whether or not it keeps them is another matter. Zsa Zsa Korda is a hard fella to kill. He’s survived plane crashes, gunshot wounds, quicksand, hand grenades, and cyanide poisoning.

Deception starts with the trailer of Dangerous Waters. It looks like a Jaws ripoff. The actual movie, though, is the furthest thing from Jaws. Actually, it’s more like a really twisted and bloody Arsenic and Old Lace, only with sharks and handcuffs instead of charming maiden aunts and elderberry wine. It opens in Australia with a young couple on a shark-watching excursion with Tucker’s Adventures. The rest of their group doesn’t know they decided to take this trip. The ship looks shady.
