The federal government-backed Australian Business Growth Fund (ABGF) has backed it second business run by a woman, tipping $10 million into clothing brand Solbari, which produces clothing, hats and accessories focused on sun protection. Founder and CEO Johanna Young launched Solbari in 2014, having moved to Melbourne from Europe in 2011 following a career in financial services with the likes of Credit Suisse and Goldman Sachs.

A Canberra-based air traffic management startup has banked $120 million for plans to run the system from space. The round was led by Australian arm of UK-listed fund manager Foresight, supported by CSIRO VC fund Main Sequence Ventures and Canadian pension fund OPTrust in a raise that took two years to complete. Founded in 2017, Skykraft is a transport infrastructure startup that developed a global air traffic management service able to cover remote and oceanic regions.

Cryptocurrency exchanges will need to need to hold an Australian financial services licence (AFSL) under plans to regulate the sector from the federal government. A proposal paper on regulating the sector has been released by Treasury for feedback by December 1. The government wants to use existing financial services laws with threshold triggers, including an exchange holding $5 million in digital assets and/or $1,500 for an individual.
