Emmy Award-winning actor Eric Stonestreet officially christened Norwegian Cruise Line’s (NCL) new Norwegian Aqua during a ceremony at the line’s terminal in PortMiami, Florida, on 13 April 2025. Built by Fincantieri at its yard in Marghera, Italy, the 3,571-guest Norwegian Aqua is NCL’s first Prima Plus-class ship and offers several experiences that debuted on the Prima-class ships, as well as new additions.

Marina Bay Cruise Centre Singapore (MBCCS) is to undergo a S$40 million (US $759,500) overhaul, which will enable it to handle dual ship calls and more passengers. The project, which is set to last nine months, will start in the first quarter of this year and marks the most extensive infrastructure upgrade at MBCCS since it opened in 2012.

Japanese-based operator NYK Cruises took delivery of its newest ship, Asuka III, from shipbuilder Meyer Werft in Emden, Germany, on 10 April. The LNG-powered ship, which successfully completed technical and nautical trials in the North Sea on 18 March, was delivered during a traditional flag change ceremony. It was attended by Hiroyuki Endo, president of NYK Cruises; Bernd Eikens, CEO of Meyer Werft Group; Captain Hisashai Kogue; and employees from both companies.

Spanish shipbuilding company Navantia and cruise company Royal Caribbean Group have signed a framework agreement for future ship modernisation and revitalisation projects. The agreement extends the existing partnership between the companies, which began in 2012 when Navantia refurbished two Royal Caribbean vessels in Cadiz, Spain.

Italian shipbuilder Fincantieri and professional services company Accenture have launched Fincantieri Ingenium to accelerate digital transformation across the cruise, port infrastructure and defence sectors. The new joint venture will be 70 per cent owned by Fincantieri NexTech – a subsidiary of the Fincantieri Group – and 30 per cent by Accenture.
