Israel's president has called on Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to "stop the legislative process immediately" as the PM triggered widespread protests and a national strike by sacking his defence minister for objecting to judicial reforms. Mr Netanyahu was expected to announce this morning that he was halting his plans, although his public statement was postponed after a coalition ally urged him not to back down, Channel 12 TV reported.
