South Downs Way Distance: 100 miles (160 km) Terrain: Mixed (chalk paths, grassy tracks, and some tarmac) Not for the faint hearted, the South Downs Way is a long-distance National Trail that runs from Winchester in Hampshire – the Saxon capital of England – to the white cliffs of Eastbourne in East Sussex. With a total of 3,800 metres, or 12,600ft of ascent, it normally takes two to four days to ride, but can be done in a day if you are extremely fit and enjoy a challenge.
