Brad Jones Racing’s Jaxon Evans has become the latest victim of Adelaide’s infamous turn eight after another frightening smash in qualifying on Sunday morning. After a trio of big smashes in qualifying on Friday when Richie Stanaway, Cam Hill and David Reynolds all tangled with the concrete at the same corner within the space of half a minute, Evans suffered the same fate at the end of Sunday’s session.

Richie Stanaway has been withdrawn from Saturday’s first race at the Adelaide 500 after experiencing delayed concussion symptoms following his big impact in qualifying on Friday and will be replaced by Dale Wood. Grove Racing said the decision to sit Stanaway out from the 250km race was made after consultation with Supercars medical delegates on Saturday.

After barely five minutes of on-track action, three drivers slammed into the concrete at the same high-speed turn within the space of half a minute of each other.

Rookie Cooper Murray will make an early debut for Erebus Motorsport at the Adelaide 500 after a last-minute call-up. After starring in a Triple Eight wildcard in the endurance races this year, the highly-rated Murray will sub for Jack Le Brocq, who has rushed home to Queensland to be with wife Mackenzie for the birth of their first child.
