    Plans to end hospital car parking charges in Northern Ireland from May could be delayed for another two years. The health minister is asking the assembly to support his proposal to delay legislation making parking in health care settings free from 12 May. Robin Swann said it was due to "practical obstacles" with the scheduled date, as well as "deepening budgetary pressures". Hospital car parking charges generate about £10m each year.

    A County Donegal man who had lifesaving treatment at the North West Cancer Centre (NWCC) has said "borders don't matter" when fighting cancer. Edward McDaid, 67, who lives in Ramelton in County Donegal, had radiotherapy at Altnagelvin after being diagnosed with prostate cancer in 2020. Tackling cancer on an-Ireland basis "makes sense", he told the BBC. And a leading academic has called on both governments to "work harder together".

    The health minister has confirmed he will be running as the Ulster Unionist Party (UUP) candidate in South Antrim in the next Westminster election. Robin Swann said running for elections was "what politicians do" and he would be able to carry out both roles. Mr Swann said both men had "moved on" and his focus was being a minister. He added that both accepted that "politics can be heated and passionate".

    Almost 35,000 people are hospitalised each year due to smoking-related illnesses, an NI Audit Office report has said. The number of people smoking has dropped by about 10% since 2011. But prevalence remains "concerningly high" among some of the "most vulnerable" groups. The report said smoking-related illnesses cost the health service about £218m annually. The Tackling the Public Health Impacts of Smoking and Vaping report was published on Tuesday.

    The trust chief executives said the strike will cause serious disruption in the already under-pressure health serviceThe chief executives of Northern Ireland's health and social care trusts say Thursday's planned strike action will have a "profound impact" on services. In a joint statement they warned that the strike will affect services on a "massive and unprecedented scale". Tens of thousands of public sector workers are due to walk out on Thursday in a dispute over pay.
