Could there be more opportunities soon for Cole Henry? The Washington Nationals' bullpen has been atrocious to begin the season. Using the word "atrocious" is phrasing it kindly. The bullpen has lost the Nats a few games and has the worst ERA in the Majors at over 7.00. Relievers Colin Poche and Lucas Sims have especially struggled, but one arm has emerged from the minor leagues.

Is this what we should come to expect from Keibert Ruiz? Some Nationals fans wrote this player off after the season they had in 2024. While some fans stuck beside him, they are rewarded now. Keibert Ruiz looks like a different player than the one we saw struggle mightily last season. The Nats' catcher is hitting .309 with two home runs, 11 RBI, and an OPS of .791 entering action on Sunday. In the 2024 season, Ruiz hit .229 with 13 home runs and 57 RBI and an OPS of .619.

When will fans be able to get clarity on this huge question? A burning question shared among many Washington Nationals is, "What direction are we headed?" Since the Nats won the World Series in 2019, they have been among the league's worst teams in nearly all statistical categories. Fans have watched many of their favorite players depart via free agency or trade in this span. Ownership has shown little commitment to increasing its willingness to spend on free agents.

After a shaky spring and subpar debut, should Nationals fans already be worried about Lucas Sims? Opening Day of the 2025 season brought intense highs and painful lows. Nationals starting pitcher MacKenzie Gore had 13 strikeouts in six innings of work, Keibert Ruiz connected on his first home run of the year, and Luis Garcia Jr. collected two hits. However, the Nats' bullpen let the team down on Thursday afternoon, with six earned runs in three innings of relief.
