The City of St. Paul has been ordered to pay more than $30,000 for violating Minnesota’s open records law. It all traces back to the city’s plans to build a new bike path on Summit Avenue. An opposed group of homeowners requested public records from the city to better understand the project’s impact, but more than a year went by with little response. Meanwhile, the city continued to move forward with the project, and homeowner Bob Cattanach decided to sue.

A Hudson, Wis., family is asking for help locating a missing memorial cross that they believe was taken from the site where their 22-year-old daughter was killed by a distracted driver in 2016. Megan Goeltz’s name is etched into the cross, which was placed at the crash site where Highway 95 meets 22nd Street North in West Lakeland Township, nine years ago. Parents Wendy and Tom Goeltz haven’t seen it since April.

Eight months after Hennepin County announced it “effectively ended” veteran homelessness, state data shows officials have maintained the milestone. There are still unhoused veterans in the county. However, none are experiencing long-term or chronic homelessness, and the Hennepin County Veteran Service office said it continues to connect veterans to permanent housing at a higher rate than veterans are coming into the homelessness system.

Sunday marked the start of a couple of shake-ups for state workers in Minnesota. A first wave of layoff notices was expected to go out to non-essential government workers, as key budget bills have yet to be passed and signed into law. June 1 was also the deadline for thousands of remote state workers to start coming back into the office more often.
