    There’s another chance to help your neighbors in need coming up. The annual DSTA Fill-a-Truck, Feed a Family Food and Fund Drive is May 29-31st. DSTA stands for the Duluth-Superior Transportation Association. Shoppers at Super One can buy a food bag to donate, or give cash. This will head to Second Harvest Northland. For 2025, the DTSA is hoping to reach another $10,000 this year and get closer to reaching the $100,000 milestone for the total since inception. Here are the details.

    A group from Iron Range Veterans of Steel got to work in the gardens at the Silver Bay Veterans Home. A group called Iron Range Veterans of Steel took a road trip to the Silver Bay Veterans Home on Wednesday. They got their hands dirty, with gardening projects. The steelworkers made quick work of a list of things that needed to get done for the growing season.

    The Little League season is underway, and kids are having fun at bat and running the bases. But the Western Duluth Little League is facing a bit of a setback. Someone tried to break in to their concession stand and then started it on fire, just as they were beginning to get it stocked up. They’ve set up mobile concessions in the meantime, and are hoping to have it cleaned up and ready for business in time for a major tournament in June.     The fire sizes have grown considerably overnight, according to authorities. Sheriff Gordon Ramsay provided a video statement on Tuesday morning. The Camp House Fire is now at 12,000 acres. Evacuation orders remain the same. The Jenkins Creek Fire is at 6,800 acres, and is threatening a more populated area. Sheriff Ramsay said the Skibo area will be under evacuation, as there is concern about that fire growing. The Three Lakes Fire is at 1,300 acres, but the evacuation orders have been lifted.

    Not many people know how to land a plane. But thanks to technology developed between Cirrus and Garmin, the plane can land itself. It’s called the Safe Return Emergency Autoland system, and can be activated with a touch of a button. Cirrus has included it now on their SR series planes. It’s been on the Vision Jet. Engineers from Duluth and Chandler, Arizona, worked hard on this project, along with Garmin.
