A month later, a hamper was on my doorstep, out of the wind and rain. Those little peanut brittle balls I like, some lavender room spray, and a bottle of organic wine. My friends and family refused to admit their hand in it.

How many newsletters are you signed up to? 5, 10, 40? more? Now. How many do you read regularly? Ever thought about why? My inbox used to resemble a battlefield of the unread— ambitious subscriptions collecting that digital dust and triggering a nagging sense of guilt. I’d sign up with dreams of learning new things, “broadening my horizons”, or supporting friends. Somehow, that initial enthusiasm rarely translated into actually reading the newsletters.

The pressure to overshare, to present a perfectly curated image of ourselves, can be overwhelming. It makes us doubt whether genuine connection is even possible without baring all, both emotionally and creatively. But just like the saying goes, “you don’t have to get naked to be sexy.” Real connection comes from authenticity and a willingness to engage, not from manufactured vulnerability. This is especially important in a world obsessed with polished, performative content.

I hope I can package my anxiety into a relatable, digestable soundbite”I literally don’t know how to rejoice in the unquantifiable and only feel progress if I “measure what matters”. Professional life has f*cked me up. We’re told to be vulnerable, to share our struggles, the underlying message is “but make it inspirational” sticker. It’s enough to give anyone an authenticity-induced migraine. I’m drowning in a sea of carefully crafted imperfection.
