Getty Images/iStockphoto A group of sixth-graders were injured when an SUV drove into a Cici’s Pizza in eastern Texas during their field trip, authorities said. Police told KLTV that between 30 and 50 students were at the pizza place when the crash occurred, with some inside and some outside the building.

Zookeepers and guests are mourning a beloved, sociable tortoise who lived for well over 100 years before dying at the St. Louis Zoo. Zoo officials said in a Facebook post that Othello the Aldabra giant tortoise was euthanized April 8 because of a gastrointestinal issue. He and another tortoise, Ray, arrived in the United States in 1938, already full-grown adults, then came to the zoo in 2004. His exact age was unknown.

A 6-year-old boy in Illinois was still within view of his home when he was struck and killed by a car while crossing the street to his school bus stop, according to police. Decatur police responded to the call around 7:20 a.m. April 10 about a pedestrian who was struck and lying in the road, according to a news release. Officers learned a blue 2024 Nissan Rogue had struck him while he was crossing the street.

A man strangled his wife to death, stored her body in his car and went to a job interview, Texas officials told news outlets. Then officials said her body was found in a Mexico desert. Jorge Mares Raygoza, 47, was arrested March 28, six days after his wife’s body was discovered on desert parkland in Juarez, Mexico. He was charged with murder and booked into county jail, according to an April 8 news release from the City of El Paso.

Three Amish children died on the way to school when their horse-drawn buggy was rear-ended by an SUV in northern Indiana, news outlets reported. WIBC reported the accident happened just before 8 a.m. on April 9. The victims, all siblings, were Glenda Jo Yoder, 13, Darrell Yoder, 10, and Devon Yoder, 9. Police told WNDU the driver of a Mercedes-Benz GLA hit the buggy, throwing all three siblings from it.
