The journalist turned author reveals the books that left a lasting impression. I absolutely loved all the Ramona books by Beverly Cleary when I was a child. They were the reason I started reading and the only series that I ever read more than once. Ramona was a character I could relate to, even though I was nothing like her. I was the eldest daughter of immigrant, Muslim parents from Syria. If anything, I was much more like Beezus, her rule-following, quieter older sister.
