The unit was hit by an outage that Eskom earlier described as an "unplanned, non-technical" trip. On Monday, Eskom said the outage was caused by a steam leak on the reheat system.

Massmart-owned retailers Makro and Game and the National Consumer Commission have recalled Trojan boxing bags that are deemed unsafe owing to a "sharp object protruding from the bags". The boxing bags purchased from 19 January this year to date must be returned to stores for a full refund, the retailers said.

This follows a ruling on Friday by the Mahikeng High Court in North West that a provisional liquidation order issued in February last year be made final. This means Tariomix has been placed under final winding-up. Tariomix, which finances the buying and selling of diamonds, is better known by its trading name, Forever Diamonds and Gold.

Eskom and Russian state-owned nuclear company Rosatom have signed a training "action plan" that aims to increase employment for African graduates of Russian universities. According to Eskom, the plan includes joint education programmes for employees; joint degree programmes among Rosatom and Eskom partner universities; and a train-the-trainers hydrogen programme developed by Rosatom.

Ramokgopa was providing an update on the government's Energy Action Plan. In the period from 30 October to 3 November this year, Eskom's Unplanned Capability Loss Factor (UCLF) stood at 17 033MW when 11 units went out of service, prompting renewed daytime load shedding.
