Ainda que de forma hesitante, nos últimos anos a Igreja Católica tem reconhecido e enfrentado o problema dos abusos sexuais dentro da instituição. O Papa Francisco tem feito declarações e tomado medidas concretas para combater os abusos sexuais, incluindo a criação de comissões especializadas para lidar com essas questões que, por sua vez, têm vindo a sugerir a implementação de novas políticas de proteção infantil e juvenil nas diversas dioceses por todo o mundo.
