It is why eyewitness testimonies are unreliable especially when the witness is a different race from the alleged perpetrator.

by Martin and Rich LeeIt has been over 55 years since the term Asian American was first coined as a way to bring together the shared experiences and interests of various Asian ethnic groups in the United States. While useful as a racial category to empower the diverse Asian ethnic communities and to document inequities, is there an actual Asian American culture?

by Martin and Rich LeeGrowing up in an immigrant family, we rarely saw our parents because they each worked two jobs and on the weekends. It taught us the value of a good work ethic but it also taught us to push ourselves even when stressed and unhappy with circumstances. The competitive nature of our society doesn’t help any. So sometimes we need to remind ourselves and our friends that it’s ok to take a break and focus on self-care.

by Martin and Rich LeeConservative political rhetoric often targets immigrants, saying they are a threat to our country’s way of life. A common way to provoke xenophobia or fear of immigrants is to make false claims about them. But if you really think about it, maybe politicians are really looking in the mirror when they come up with these lies. Martin and Rich Lee are second-generation Korean American brothers. My guest for this month is Lateef Ledbetter, a senior counsel at Wells Fargo based in Minneapolis. He was exposed to the law early, from his mother’s work for state child protection agencies, and traveled far and wide before landing his current position. He learned something important in each stop, from Mississippi to Norway, from an informal in-house apprenticeship to prosecuting criminal cases. Among other duties at Wells Fargo, he handles contested consumer claims.

by Martin and Rich LeeRacial stereotypes abound in our society, and our Asian American communities are just as guilty buying into them as other groups. But if we get to know people from other racial backgrounds and develop meaningful relationships, then we can move beyond stereotypes. Of course, Diggy’s dad will still be Diggy’s dad though. Martin and Rich Lee are second-generation Korean American brothers. Martin is a retired elementary school teacher and the illustrator of the strip.

This summer, I have enjoyed going to a park near my Chicago home to watch my son and daughter learn batting, fielding, and — most importantly — teamwork on their respective baseball and softball teams. Professionally, I also enjoyed moderating an event at Wrigley Field with a panel discussion of top lawyers involved in sports sponsorships. They emphasized that forging solid partnerships — another word for teamwork — is just as crucial in major league business as in my kids’ little leagues.
