On the other hand, more and more workers are feeling disconnected from their employer. According to Slingshot’s 2024 Digital Work Trends report, less than a quarter (23%) of employees feel they’re educated on what their employer is trying to achieve.

A growing number of firms are realizing that graduates don’t always make the best hires and that alternative routes to training can be just as equitable. One survey by recruitment firm Hays conducted in August 2023 found that 45% of more than 13,000 employers across 21 industries, from accounting to procurement to tech, don’t believe a university education to be important to a job application.

New research from Deloitte shows that 72% of Gen Z and 71% of millennial workers take into account an employer’s environmental impact and policies before accepting a job from them. Furthermore, 54% of Gen Z and 48% of millennials are asking their employers to take more action on climate change. They would be willing to leave their job, and even switch industry altogether, if their concerns aren’t addressed.
