I just got back from Microsoft Build, which was in Seattle, and it always feels like I'm going somewhere. Whether it's CES in Las Vegas, Computex in Taipei, IFA in Berlin, Snapdragon Summit in Hawaii, the Valnet offices in Montreal, or even just a few days in New York for something or other, there's always something on the calendar. For me, there's a science to traveling. Everything that goes in my bag has a purpose. And I like a good deal of options when I travel.

I first saw the Asus Zenbook A14 at a CES pre-briefing in December, and I instantly fell in love with it. It's so deliciously thin and light, seemingly making no compromises. When CES rolled around, I gave it an award because it was one of my favorite laptops at the show. There are two models, one of which weighs under a kilogram and one of which weighs just a bit more than that; it's less than two-thirds of an inch at its thickest point.

HP only has one Computex announcement this year, a mid-tier consumer laptop called the OmniBook 5, something that probably would have been called a Pavilion in a past life. I've been going to Build since the first one that was in Seattle, in 2017. It's gotten consistently worse over the years. It's not hard to walk down the street and just see someone openly smoking crack.
