    A CHINESE car brand remembered for its lamentably poor first tilt a decade ago is returning to New Zealand, this time a factory-run operation. Chery announced today it will be representing new products behind its own badge here, and while no specific cars have been cited for release, it is promising to deliver “high-quality, innovative and technologically-advanced” vehicles. One priority model appears to be the Tiggo, a compact sports utility. An image of the Tiggo4 was provided with the release.

    Big fella’s diesel push is over; like Santa Fe and smaller SUVs it’s now dedicated to electric-assisted petrol. DIESEL’S departure from Hyundai’s sports utility line-up will be complete when the largest of the lot comes on sale here, potentially before year-end. As expected, the new generation of the Palisade unveiled in the United States has followed in the tracks of the latest Santa Fe in expunging the 2.2-litre turbodiesel for a hybrid petrol.
