"More and more users are using these cameras for video shooting. We have to accommodate this video shooting," says Go Tokura, Executive Vice President at Canon and head of its Imaging Group, when speaking to us at CP+ in Yokohama, in February. Modern displays in the latest phones, TVs and laptops can show a much wider brightness range and a broader array of colors than before, allowing more lifelike images in a way that could revolutionize photography. But a lack of movement toward a format with widespread support has stifled the progress of true HDR photography.

Sony has announced the FE 50-150mm F2 GM tele zoom: a shorter but faster alternative to the traditional 70-200mm F2.8. Its wider aperture will particularly suit photographers of indoor sports and wedding photographers. The lens is the same 200mm (7.9") length as Sony's current 70-200mm F2.8 OSS GM II though 17% wider, at 103mm (4.1"). And, while it's a whole stop faster than the (longer and stabilized) 70-200mm, it's only 30% heavier, at 1340g (47.27oz), which feels surprisingly light in the hand.

During the three weeks I've been shooting with the Sigma BF, a surprising number of people asked me what I thought of it. I'm not necessarily going to suggest you should go out and buy one, but I can honest say I really enjoyed it. Partly because it prompted me to think more about the photos I was taking than I have done in a long time.

Some years ago, when I was relatively new to the camera industry, I wrote a post for DPReview's short-lived blog, suggesting it was high time someone re-thought the way camera interfaces work. I used Apple as an example of a company making inroads into an established market by developing a completely different way to interact with a device. I had no idea, back then, just how much impact the iPhone would go on to have, of course.
