BY RICHARD [email protected] plus four. Mention those three words to a Charlton Athletic fan and they will instantly know the moment that is being talked about. Patrick Bauer. Wembley. The winning goal in the 2019 League One play-off final. Just like Clive Mendonca’s hat-trick in 1998 at the old Wembley, along with Sasa Ilic’s penalty shootout heroics, it is carved deeply into the Addicks’ history.

Charlton Athletic’s players are paying Wembley a visit before Sunday’s League One play-off final – and Macaulay Gillesphey reckons that will be huge positive ahead of taking to the famous turf against Leyton Orient. The 29-year-old defender has played at the national stadium before but it was a far from happy experience as Plymouth Argyle lost 4-0 to Bolton Wanderers in the 2023 EFL Trophy final in April. Crystal Palace goalkeeper Owen Goodman has emerged as a potential loan target for Bolton Wanderers. The 21-year-old goalkeeper has been a star performer for AFC Wimbledon this season. Charlton Athletic have appointed Phil Chapple to head up their recruitment. The South London Press understands that the 58-year-old, who recently left Luton Town, is coming back to play a key role in their upcoming transfer window activity. Norwich-born Chapple played for the Addicks. He was signed for £100,000 from Cambridge United in 1993. Chapple took on the chief scout role at Charlton in 2007 and then had a brief spell in Phil Parkinson’s coaching team before reverting back in 2009.

HT #cpfc 1 Manchester City 0. Incident-packed. Superb finish by Eze, such a quality player. The Eagles are, as it stands, 45 minutes away from lifting the FA Cup. But plenty of work still to do.

Big talking point before that is whether Henderson could have seen red. Some of the picture stills suggest he handled outside of his penalty area to swat the ball away from Haaland. #cpfc

Absolutely mental. Henderson saves Marmoush's penalty. Brilliant save. #cpfc
