Dale Mosby taught us all how to use a personal radio (after designing a system that would allow us all to talk, from the Arch Cape tunnel all the way to Tillamook Head). Mary Beth Cottle taught us how to safely to enter a smoky building to search for occupants.

    The Country Ahead of Us, the Country Behind The first article I ever published, decades ago, focused on the idea that it was both possible and desirable to reimagine schools as connected learning systems, where every aspect of the school is shaped by a central set of ideas and values. Now here I am, around 30 years later, writing basically the same article because the world of education has barely changed.
