One of the common responses to my claims about the ethical shortcomings in the legal professions is that the vast majority of lawyers are ‘good guys’ (rather beside the point I am afraid) and do not breach their rules. To which one question is how well do they know their own rules? You have to know your rules to know you are not breaching them. I have my own inchoate sense of an answer to that from various, largely informal, sources and some research.

A United States Navy four-star admiral could find himself docked in a federal prison cell on charges of bribery. The Department of Justice unsealed an indictment against retired Admiral Robert Burke on Friday. Burke is accused of steering a Navy contract to a private company in court documents in exchange for the promise of a lucrative post-retirement role with the company.

One of Costco’s signature deals isn’t going anywhere. Gary Millerchip, chief financial officer of the wholesale chain, on Thursday addressed the future of the $1.50 hot-dog and drink deal — which has long been a staple of Costco’s food court — and vowed to keep it. He relayed the good consumer news during a quarterly earnings conference call with shareholders, according to Fox Business. Millerchip pledged to continue the business practices of his recently retired predecessor, Richard Galanti.

An infant child has died after being mauled by the family dog. Ezra Mansoor, who was only six weeks old, was fatally attacked by his family’s husky dog in his crib last month, according to WLVT-TV. The child died Thursday. The child was mourned by his parents in an interview. “Being his mom was the biggest honor and the best thing I’ve ever done,” Knoxville, Tennessee, resident Chloe Mansoor said of her son’s death. Chloe and Mark Mansoor say the dog had never shown any sign of aggression.
