WJXT’s meteorologist, Richard Nunn, has forecasted a blistering heat wave making an entrance as the weekend wraps up and the new week begins. Expect daytime highs reaching the mid to upper 90s, providing the perfect excuse to fire up the grill or take a dip in the pool. While the heat is building up, a few brief showers are still sauntering around southeast Georgia.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Tonight’s weather features a noticeable shift as lingering showers move out, making way for sunny skies and higher temperatures. According to WJXT’s meteorologist Richard Nunn, a few spotty showers are currently observed north of downtown, near the airport, but they’re expected to clear out soon. While some rain showers linger, the transition to drier air is anticipated later tonight. Clear skies will dominate the forecast as we move into Wednesday.

The clouds have arrived as the sea breeze slowly develops. We are still expecting another round of showers and thunderstorms with the potential of locally heavy rain. The best chance for soaking rainfall will be near and along I-95 and the beaches. The showers and storms will begin developing around 5 p.m., with increasing coverage through around 9 p.m.Storms will begin to weaken and fade after 10 p.m. A chance of showers will continue overnight and early Friday.

A mild night is expected under partly cloudy skies with patchy fog forming late. We are tracking a few showers and storms! Scattered showers with thunderstorms are developing near and along I-10 and I-75, generally west of Highway 301. These will continue through around 8 p.m. Columbia, Baker, Union, Bradford, Alachua, Clay and Putnam counties will have the best chance of showers and storms through tonight, 30-40 percent. Thirsty lawns will need a drink this week as rain chances remain low through Friday. Scattered showers with storms will be possible this weekend.
