Avon Superintendent Ben Hodge leaving districtAVON —- Avon Schools Superintendent Ben Hodge announced he intends to leave the position at the end of July. Hodge has been superintendent since 2021 and will depart to join Middleburg Heights’ Polaris Career Center, a career-technical education institution, as its assistant superintendent effective Aug. 1. He first joined Avon Schools in 2014 as curriculum director. “Avon has been an amazing place for me for 11 years,” Hodge said.

The Avon Lake school board issued a signed letter denying rumors circulating online about improper behavior by a district administrator. The letter, dated March 20, asserted that any claims that a member of its district level leadership team had been considered for disciplinary action, suspension or termination were false and warned against spreading misinformation.

School staff had wrapped 500 copies of Betty Birney’s “The World According to Humphrey” in brown paper, which students in Brittany Leader’s second grade class had soon ripped open excitedly.

Ford's Ohio Assembly Plant construction moving to next stepThe construction of Ford Motor Company’s expansion of its Ohio Assembly Plant will move to the interior of the facility in early April. Ford announced the expansion in 2022 as a $1.5 billion investment that would produce a new commercial electric vehicle line and double the workforce of the plant, which straddles Avon Lake, Sheffield and Sheffield Lake.

Growth is the highlight of Avon Lake State of the City Avon Lake’s 2024 was defined by growth, according to its mayor Mark Spaetzel. “We’re over 26,000 residents,” Spaetzel said. “We are seeing our community continuing to grow, particularly residentially.
