Austin police are investigating a homicide that took place early Saturday morning near the 12600 block of North Lamar Boulevard. Officers found a man with "obvious trauma" when responding to a check welfare call, according to a KXAN report. According to the Austin Police Department, responders performed life-saving measures but could not revive him. He was declared dead at approximately 4:55 a.m., according to the report. This is Austin's 14th homicide of the year.

Kansas State guards Zyanna Walker and Serena Sundell combined for 33 points, six rebounds and eight assists to lead No. 12 Kansas State to an 89-50 nonconference win at Texas A&M on Sunday. But it was another guard, sophomore Taryn Sides, who came off the bench to spark the Wildcats. Sides was 7 of 9 from the field, including a 5-for-7 clip from 3-point range, and finished with 19 points, seven rebounds and six assists.

Nearly two months ago, the Georgia Bulldogs strolled into Royal-Memorial Stadium and knocked Texas from its No. 1 spot atop college football's major polls. On Saturday, the Longhorns and Bulldogs meet again, this time for the SEC championship and a first-round bye in the College Football playoff on the line. The Bulldogs won that Oct. 19 matchup in Austin 30-15.

For the second time in six weeks, District 26-6A rivals Westlake and Lake Travis will meet in a showdown of Central Texas' top two programs. And for the second straight year, their Class 6A Division I regional final will determine a spot in next week's state semifinals. There are three other state quarterfinals going on Friday night involving Austin-area teams:∙ Vandegrift and San Antonio Harlan are playing at UFCU Stadium in San Marcos in Class 6A Division II.

Texas A&M Aggies men's basketball guard Wade Taylor IV scored a season-high 24 points, including 16 in the second half to help the No. 20 Aggies rally past Rutgers 81-77 on Saturday in the fifth-place game of the Players Era Festival tournament in Las Vegas. Taylor shot 7 of 14 from the field in the second half and hit all eight of his free throw attempts and also dished out a game-high five assists for A&M (6-2).
