The REPORTERThe Westfield baseball team won a battle of ranked teams in a Wednesday home game. The Class 4A No. 7 Shamrocks took care of 3A No. 8 Cathedral 4-0. Westfield scored all of its runs in the fourth inning. Beck Jordan led off that inning with a single, then advanced to third base when Nick Fero cracked a double into right field. Ethan Colling drew a walk to load the bases. Johnny Ewing came up next and he smacked a left field line drive to score Jordan and Fero.

The REPORTERLongtime Guerin Catholic boys basketball coach Bobby Allen is heading to the home of the Royals. Allen has been hired as the new head coach at Hamilton Southeastern, it was announced on Wednesday. Allen replaces John Ashworth, who had coached the Royals for the past four seasons. Allen spent seven years as the Golden Eagles’ head coach, succeeding GC’s first coach, Pete Smith, in 2018.

The Westfield boys golf team won an 18-hole dual meet over Hamilton Southeastern Wednesday at Prairie View Golf Club. The Shamrocks scored 299 to the Royals’ 318. Westfield’s Jake Cesare was the meet medalist with a one-under par 71. He was followed by Will Harvey 74, Brayden Worthington 75, Hudson Kutchma 77 and Ryan Cesare 77. Dane Starnes led the Royals with 77, followed by Mattingly Upchurch 78, Kai Warner 80 and Blake Babb 83.

The REPORTERThe Hamilton Heights softball team stunned the top-ranked team in Class 3A on Wednesday. The host Huskies beat Western 3-2 in a home and Hoosier Conference game. Heights scored an early run, held the lead for most of the game, then got the go-ahead run in the sixth inning to clinch the victory.

The REPORTERThe Westfield girls tennis team began its season Tuesday with a 5-0 Hoosier Crossroads Conference win at Brownsburg. The No. 3-ranked Shamrocks, a state finalist team last season, won all five matches in straight sets. No. 1 singles Alexandra Grilliot got a 6-0, 6-0 shutout, while No. 2 Juliette Grilliot won 6-2, 6-1 and No. 3 singles Maddie Iovino was a 6-3, 6-3 winner.
