Len Gardner, the Richmond utility who captained the Under 19s, won a Reserves Best and Fairest, and played five senior games, has died. He was 94. Gardner died on Saturday May 17th, 2025, his son Mark told Rhett Bartlett. Born on February 16th, 1931, the passionate Tiger supporter grew up in Burnley, and worked as a truck driver for Lou Arthur, transporting the barley and malt from the wharf to the silos in Richmond.

A landmark six-year research project documenting every known Richmond Under 19s player has been completed. The result is a list of 1,054 players who suited up for the Under 19s between 1946–1991. Frank Dunin, the CSIRO scientist who was Richmond’s key position player in the 1950s, and member of the demonstration football match at the Melbourne Olympics, has died. Dunin died May 13th 2025, his son Ben told Rhett Bartlett. In 1953 and 1955-1959, the right-footer played 69 senior games as a centre-half-forward, centre half-back and ruckman, kicking 30 goals. He also played 13 Reserves games and kicked nine goals.

Peter Nixon AO, the universally admired politician who, as a staunch supporter of the Richmond Football Club, was Club Patron for over 40 years, has died. Mr Nixon died May 1st 2025, aged 97. Whilst serving under five former Prime Ministers - Harold Holt, John McEwen, John Gorton, Billy McMahon, and Malcolm Fraser - he followed the fortunes of Tigerland from within the inner sanctum, always having the ear and respect of powerbrokers Graeme Richmond, Alan Schwab, and Ian Wilson.

Edo Benetti, the Italian son of a coal miner, who played nine senior games as Richmond’s full-forward in the early 1960s, has died. He was 83. Benetti died March 3, 2025, his daughter Jan advised the Richmond Former Players and Officials. His career at Tigerland spanned 1960-1962 for nine Senior games and seven goals, and 23 Reserves matches for 43 goals. In 1962 he won the Reserves goalkicking with 22.
