In the spring of 2013, I visited Egypt. It had been two years since the uprisings known as the “Arab Spring” had toppled the government — and in the aftermath, an angry, conservative base ready to make Egypt Islamist again had helped propel the “Freedom and Justice Party” to power and elected their leader, Mohammed Morsi, as president.

History, religions, and cuisine blend German and French flavors in Alsace, from many centuries of influences and proximity. Alsace is French with a German accent. They say that for every church in Rome, there’s a bank in Milan. A visit here will reward you with a delightful, perfectly preserved, and virtually traffic-free world highlighted by a colorful-inside-and-out cathedral and some of Italy's best wine.

I’m all about travelling efficiently — and a great way to do that is by savouring local cuisine as you soak up the splendour of the place you came to see. While restaurants with a view often come with a steep price tag, I’ve learned to find scenic places to eat where the food is delicious, affordable, and memorable.
