In 1899, Jean-Marc Côté a French commercial artist and his team were commissioned to create a series of cards to commemorate the 1900 Paris World’s Fair, Exposition Universelle, featuring images of how the world might look in the year 2000. At least 78 cards were designed. Some of the depicted predictions, such as video chatting and automation, proved prescient. Others, including domesticated whales and robot barbers, have yet to come to pass.
