Scottish Green MSP Ross Greer’s proposals for a ‘Mansion Tax’ on homes sold for over a million pounds have been turned down by every other political party. Mr Greer, list MSP for this area, presented amendments to the Housing (Scotland) Bill that would add a new level to the Land and Buildings Transaction Tax for the priciest homes. This additional tax band was intended to generate extra funds for public services in need of financial support.

Renfrewshire Council is asking local residents, businesses, and community groups to share their thoughts on plans for a new public garden at the site of the former Brown Institute in Renfrew. The garden is designed to reflect the history of the Brown Institute while creating a welcoming space in the town centre, featuring circular walkways, seating, and a variety of native trees, shrubs, and seasonal plants. The plan also includes repurposing materials from the old building.

Renfrew Gala Day brought kids, families, and friends to Robertson Park for a Hawaiian themed day of fun this weekend. Local residents and groups paraded through the town to kick start the celebrations, and crowds were entertained in the park by local musicians and dancers throughout the day. Alongside the performances, a variety of activities including face painting, football, and rugby activities had enough to keep everyone entertained.

A Renfrewshire councillor has defected from Scottish Labour to the Reform UK Party. Councillor Jamie McGuire, who represents Renfrew North and Braehead, now becomes the third member of Renfrewshire Council to join Reform UK. Earlier this year, fellow councillor John Grey from the same ward, Renfrew North and Braehead, defected from the Scottish Conservatives in April.

The Neonatal Unit at the Royal Alexandra Hospital in Paisley is calling on the Renfrewshire community for donations of baby clothes. With their current supplies nearly exhausted, they are seeking pre-loved good condition or brand new clothing and vests in sizes ranging from tiny baby to first size and newborn. In a Facebook appeal, the unit explained: “Our stock of clothes is running low and very close to empty and would love it if anyone would be willing to give us a helping hand.
