Posted: SOME RAIN AROUND TODAY: An upper low will bring showers and thunderstorms back to Alabama today. It won’t rain everywhere, and it won’t rain all day, but showers and storms will around through early tonight. The chance of any one location seeing rain is 50-60 percent, and the high will be in the low to mid 80s for most communities. The average high for Birmingham on September 1 is 89.

Posted: END OF METEOROLOGICAL SUMMER: On this last day of August we expect a mostly sunny sky across Alabama; any afternoon showers will be confined to the far southern counties of the state later today. Highs will range from the mid to to upper 80s over the northern third of the state to the low 90s over South Alabama. We will bring back a chance of showers and thunderstorms tomorrow as an upper low to the west pulls moist air northward.

Posted: NOT AS HOT: As Hurricane Idalia nears landfall in the Big Bend of Florida, it will be drawing moisture out of the atmosphere in our area and that will make the next several days a little more comfortable. Highs across the area will be in the mid to upper 80s with heat indices hovering in the low 90s. These below average temperatures will be persisting through the weekend.
