Jax Forrest’s World Trials Championship match rescheduled

(WTAJ) — July 14 is the new date that Bishop McCort Jax Forrest is circling on his calendar to try and make the 2025 Senior World Championships. Forrest had his Final X match, which decides Team USA, delayed earlier this week due to a request from his opponent, Vito Arujau. Their world trials championship match will now move from New Jersey to North Dakota to be held alongside the junior nationals inside the Fargodome. Round one for the best-of-three series will begin at 4:20 p.m. (EST).

LORETTO, PA (WTAJ) — Saint Francis basketball coach Luke McConnell laughs thinking about the message he sent his cousin T.J. after the Indiana Pacers won the Eastern Conference Finals. “I literally think my text was, ‘Dude, you’re in the NBA Finals’ and he’s like, ‘I know, right?’ Like crazy.,” he recalls. Luke is in his first season as head coach at his alma mater, Saint Francis University. His cousin T.J. has played in the NBA for a decade and Thursday made his NBA Finals debut.

PITTSBURGH, Pa. (BLACK AND GOLD NATION) – Pittsburgh has selected five offensive linemen in Omar Khan’s first two drafts as general manager. The Steelers are now hoping that investment will pay off in 2025. “All the teams that end up winning on Sundays usually starts up front,” Steelers offensive tackle Troy Fautanu said. In 2023 and 2024, tackles Broderick Jones and Fautanu were first-round picks in back-to-back drafts.

ALTOONA, Pa. (WTAJ) – Out of 22 teams in WTAJ’s coverage area that made the PIAA playoffs for baseball or softball, only eight remain alive after the first round. The quarterfinals for all of those teams are set for Thursday, June 5. Tussey Mountain and Mount Union are the only baseball teams still in the tournament, while reigning softball champion DuBois Central Catholic headlines the six remaining softball squads. (WTAJ) — While the U.S. wrestling team for the 2025 Senior World Championships will be decided on June 14 during Final X, Bishop McCort’s Jax Forrest will have to wait just a little bit longer for his chance to make Team USA. On Tuesday, USA Wrestling announced that Forrest’s opponent, Vito Arujau, has requested and received a delay for the match to take place at a later date.
'Chiseled' Cole Holcomb ready to make impact in return from injury

PITTSBURGH, Pa. (BLACK AND GOLD NATION) – Cole Holcomb is the forgotten member of the Pittsburgh Steelers linebacker room among fans. The last time they saw him; Holcomb was being carted off the field due to a gruesome knee injury that he suffered back in November of 2023. “He’s been here every day working since he’s been injured,” Steelers safety Minkah Fitzpatrick said. Holcomb didn’t want to dive too deep into his injury, which wasn’t disclosed to the media.
PIAA softball, baseball playoffs begin Monday

ALTOONA, Pa. (WTAJ) – The PIAA baseball and softball playoffs are officially underway on Monday. 22 teams from across WTAJ’s viewing area will be competing to try and win a state championship. DuBois Central Catholic’s softball team is the only local program that is back in the playoffs after winning a PIAA Championship last season. All first-round games are scheduled for Monday, June 2. ALTOONA, Pa. (WTAJ) – One swing can change the course of a baseball game. Nick Cimillo and Brenden Dixon showed examples of that in Altoona’s 9-7 win against Portland in extra innings on Saturday. Heading into the fifth inning, the Curve trailed 6-0 with only just one hit in the game. Sea Dogs pitcher Christopher Troye was erratic, walking four out of the first six batters he faced in the inning. After walking in a run, Troye then hit Jack Brannigan to tally another Curve score.
Steelers wide receivers looking to step up after Pickens trade
