    As polls across the nation began to close at 6 p.m. CST, hundreds of UT students joined watch parties around campus to follow the results of the 2024 U.S. general election. By 10 p.m., students were beginning to head home, but votes were still being counted nationwide. 6 p.m.Ohio, Florida and Pennsylvania polls have closed, and officials started counting the first 2024 presidential election ballots.

    Early voting for the 2024 Travis County elections began Monday and will continue until Nov. 1. Students can vote on campus at the Texas Union, the LBJ School of Public Affairs or at the Travis County Civil and Family Courts Facility just south of MLK Boulevard. Early voting hours are Monday through Saturday from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Sunday from noon to 6 p.m. The Union will have extended hours until 10 p.m. during the last two days of early voting.

    Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton filed a complaint against the city of Austin on Sept. 26 over its Reproductive Health Grant that supports those seeking out-of-state abortions. During the 2024-2025 budget session, Austin City Council approved allocating $400,000 of funding towards reproductive expenses. These funds allow the grant to be spent on logistical support, such as funding travel and lodging, for residents traveling out-of-state for healthcare.
