THE heartbroken family of a 38-year-old man who has been missing from Co Mayo for over two weeks have said they are "desperate for any news". George Brennan was last seen via CCTV in a Co Antrim shop on Wednesday April 2 - and he has not been heard from since. The missing man was spotted in the Spar shop on the Moyle Road in Ballycastle wearing a black zip up top, dark jeans and runners.

THOUSANDS of people across Ireland will be able to pick up their social welfare cash boosts early today. The shake-up comes as all banks and post offices prepare to close their doors for three full days over the Easter Bank Holiday weekend. The bank holiday will fall on Monday, April 21, meaning social welfare payments must be picked up early to avoid having to wait until Tuesday to receive the boost.

A ONCE-OFF €280 grant paid alongside Child Benefit is only available to those born after a certain date, it has been confirmed. Minister for Social Protection Dara Calleary said the New Baby Grant is given to those eligible alongside their first month's Child Benefit. This means those eligible for the lump sum grant will receive €420 in the month after their child's birth.

DUBLIN will be pummelled by rain for the first half of the day - with Met Eireann warning there is a chance of spot flooding in the capital. And forecasters have confirmed that widespread rain looks set to continue beating down for at least the next week. Met Eireann has placed Dublin under a Status Yellow rain warning alongside Louth, Meath, Wexford and Wicklow. The alert, which kicked in at 9pm last night, will remain in place until 2pm this afternoon.

HEARTBREAKING tributes have poured in for a "pure gentleman" who was killed in a horror crash on the Cork/Waterford border on Saturday afternoon. Gerard O'Brien, from Freemount in Co Cork, was sadly pronounced dead at the scene of the collision between his motorbike and a car. Gardai and emergency services rushed to the scene on the R634 at Ballydasoon shortly before 2pm and closed off a section of the road.
