It is understood that the 32-year-old was attacked near a bar on North Main Street shortly before 10pm last night. Gardai and emergency services rushed to the scene within minutes of the incident and the man was taken to Cork University Hospital for treatment of serious injuries. He was sadly pronounced dead a short time later.

A MAN, aged in his 60s, was killed in a horror crash between a car and a motorcycle in Co Waterford this afternoon. The motorcyclist was sadly pronounced dead at the scene of the collision near Youghal on the Cork-Waterford border. Gardai and emergency services rushed to the scene of the incident on the R634 at Ballydasoon shortly before 2pm today. The driver of the car involved in the collision, a man in his 50s, was transported to Cork University Hospital for assessment.

THERE are "no plans" to introduce split Child Benefit payments between separated couples with shared custody, it has been confirmed. The €140 monthly cash is paid out to the mother or step-mother in most cases. The child's father or stepfather can only get the payment if the child does not live with their mother or step-mother. And Minister for Social Protection Dara Calleary confirmed that his Department is not considering splitting the payments for co-parents.
