This manuscript was originally submitted to BioSilico on May 26, 2003. It was not accepted for publication. Besides disagreeing with the major tenet of our opinion, one of the reviewers pointed to the absence of patents listing us as inventors. With 12 granted patents between us, this concern is moot. This manuscript was based on my multiple conversations with David Weininger, a cheminformatics visionary who passed away in November 2016.
