India has added Mizoram state to its 12th city gas distribution bidding round, which offers areas in Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh and northeast India to connect to the pipeline network. Areas in the northeast region include Arunachal Pradesh, Meghalaya, Manipur, Nagaland and Sikkim. The Andaman and Nicobar Islands, as well as Lakshadweep, will be the only areas unconnected to the city gas grid following completion of the 12th bidding round.

India plans mandatory blending of compressed biogas (CBG) in domestic compressed natural gas (CNG) and piped natural gas (PNG) to cut its reliance on expensive imports of LNG. Blending will initially be voluntary at 1pc for automobiles and households from the April 2024-March 2025 fiscal year and become mandatory from 2025-26, the oil ministry said on 24 November. Natural gas is mostly used in India's gas distribution network through PNG in households and CNG for automobiles.
India's LPG demand falls in October on higher prices

India's LPG consumption fell by 2pc on the month to 2.5mn t in October because of rising commercial cylinder prices over the last few months. Consumption rose by 4pc on the year. Sales of commercial LPG cylinders fell by 2pc from the previous month and on the year to 238,700t in October, according to preliminary oil ministry data.

Indian private-sector refiner Reliance Industries (RIL) and BP are offering seven condensate cargoes from "difficult fields" in the Krishna-Godavari (KG) basin off India's east coast through an e-auction. Each cargo will consist of 500,000 bl of condensate, and the e-auction will be held on 23 November, according to a tender notice from both firms published on 8 November. The government considers deepwater, ultra-deepwater as well as high-pressure and high-temperature fields as "difficult fields".

India's LNG imports rose by 21pc from a year earlier to 2.27bn m³ in September, supported by rising power demand during the festive season and as industrial activity gained momentum following the end of the monsoon season. India's LNG import dependency was at 43.4pc of the country's natural gas consumption of 5.25bn m³ in September, preliminary oil ministry data show, compared with 46pc a year earlier. Imports over January-September totalled 15.11bn m³, up by 11pc from a year earlier.
India’s IOC to invest $200mn in renewable power plants

Indian state-controlled refiner IOC is set to invest 16.6bn rupees ($200mn) as equity in a joint venture with gas utility firm NTPC for setting up renewable power plants. The project aims to provide 650MW of round-the-clock green power for upcoming refinery projects. IOC is set to expand its refinery operations to about 107mn t/yr (2.15mn b/d) in the coming years, it said in its annual report without giving a timeline.
